The Austria-Japan Study Group for Humanities, Social Sciences and Art (Akademischer Arbeitskreis Japan, AAJ) was established in 1985 with the aim to further the dissemination of knowledge and exchange of information about Japanese society and culture in Austria. Moreover, the AAJ seeks to connect people interested in Japan in the fields of the humanities, social sciences and art.
The AAJ organizes lectures, artist talks, film screenings, other Japan-related events and informal meetings. Furthermore, it issues the journal MINIKOMI: Austrian Journal of Japanese Studies which contains original articles, book reviews, conference reports, interviews etc. Additionally, members receive an e-mail newsletter on Japan-related events in Austria.
The AAJ’s approximately 140 members in 6 countries include scholars from the field of Japanese Studies as well as journalists and artists, students and graduates of the Japanese Studies division of the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Vienna, as well as other persons with an interest in Japan.
The AAJ is an academic, non-political, non-profit making association.
